What it measures
The consolidated assets of the Federal Reserve Banks, including securities and lending facilities.
Why markets care
Balance-sheet composition affects reserves and money markets, but total assets alone are not a complete measure of “liquidity.”
Limitations
- Assets do not map mechanically to risk-asset prices.
- Treasury cash, reverse repos, reserves and private credit conditions also matter.
